Frequently Asked Questions
What is Woolwax?
Woolwax is a premium lanolin-based undercoating derived from natural wool grease. Unlike tar or rubberized coatings, it doesn’t crack or harden — it stays pliable, self-heals minor surface scratches, and actively creeps into seams and crevices for deep corrosion protection.
How long does the service take?
Woolwax Undercoating is a full day service. Plan to drop off your vehicle in the morning and pick it up by end of day. If you’re also adding the Salt Neutralizer Wash or combining with Inner Cavity Wax, plan for a full day as well — we’ll confirm timing when you book.
Will it smell after the service?
It may have a mild scent — Woolwax is among the lowest-odor lanolin coatings on the market. However, some tight or enclosed spaces require aerosol application to ensure full coverage, and the aerosol version does carry a stronger odor that can be more noticeable for the first week or two, particularly when the vehicle is warm. This is completely normal and fades over time. It is not harmful.
How often should it be reapplied?
We recommend a reapplication check every 1–2 years. Woolwax doesn’t peel or flake off like hard coatings, but annual or biannual top-ups keep the coverage optimal — especially for vehicles driven in heavy salt conditions.
Can it be applied over existing rust?
Yes. Woolwax is effective on surface rust — it encapsulates and slows further oxidation. However, for the best results we recommend loose, scaled rust be removed and a rust-converting primer applied to affected areas prior to service. We also recommend our Salt Neutralizer Wash beforehand to maximize adhesion and treatment effectiveness.
Does Woolwax get on the exhaust or get in the way of anything?
We carefully avoid spraying directly on exhaust pipes and catalytic converters. Nearby heat shields may receive some overspray and will burn off harmlessly. The product is non-flammable at ambient temperatures.
Toyota & Lexus Clip Fee
Toyota and Lexus vehicles use a significantly higher volume of plastic retainer clips throughout the undercarriage and. Due to this, all Toyota and Lexus services include a flat $25 clip fee — this covers the careful removal and reinstallation of factory clips required to access the treatment areas.
Broken / Missing Clips
If any clips on your vehicle are broken or missing during the service process, a flat $15 fee applies to cover replacement clips. We will always inspect and notify you before proceeding — you’ll never be surprised by this charge.
Should I do Woolwax or Inner Cavity Wax — or both?
They protect different areas. Woolwax covers your exposed undercarriage — frame, floor pans, and suspension. Inner Cavity Wax protects the enclosed hollow sections inside your doors, rocker panels, fenders, and frame cavities that undercoating can’t reach. For maximum protection, we recommend both — see our combination packages above.
Woolwax is a professional-grade lanolin undercoating. Results vary by vehicle age, pre-existing corrosion, and road conditions. We recommend annual inspections to maintain optimal coverage.
